With acres of ancient forest on your doorstep, walking is one of the most popular outdoor activities in the Forest of Dean, and there are plenty of options for walkers of all abilities.
The surrounding countryside is idyllic and waiting for you to explore. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful stroll staying near the site or a lengthy hike with a picnic, there are some fantastic walks below to suit everyone.

These easy walks will give you a gentle introduction to the region and are aimed at, older walkers, the less able, young families and inexperienced walkers. They’re all circular and are intended as manageable strolls for anyone who wants to spend a short time walking without a great deal of effort.
The walks are mainly on clearly defined, well worn paths, tracks and lanes which should be easy to find. There are sketched route maps indicating the starting points, car parks, gates, as well as features of interest.
The Ordnance Survey map grid reference of the start of each walk is included with all maps. The distance is made clear, allowing you to judge whether the walk is suitable for you. Some of the walks have optional shortcuts with indicated points of historic and natural interest, as well as stunning viewpoints.
